IODP Job Opportunity: Assistant Research Scientist
Job Description:
The Assistant Research Scientist is responsible for performing Expedition Project Manager, Staff Scientist, and Science Engagement Activity duties in support of IODP Science Services and Operations. This position is responsible for overall scientific implementation of scientific ocean drilling expeditions and achievement of cruise science plan through coordination of shorebased and ship resources; providing scientific expertise and leadership to improve delivery of IODP-TAMU scientific services – including ship and shore laboratories, enhancement/development of new analytical tools and techniques, and conducting independent scientific research and contributing to the Texas A&M University education mission, coordinating IODP-TAMU outreach, leading project management implementation, and/or facilitating scientific ocean drilling clearance activities.
Required Education and Experience:
- Appropriate Ph.D
- Relevant professional experience
Other Requirements or Other Factors:
- This is a sea going position sailing on one cruise every 1 to 2 years.
- Seagoing employees must pass a new employee physical exam and annual physical exam.
- Seagoing Physical Requirements: The duties of this position involve fine motor skills for delicate tasks and strenuous physical activity, including moving, lifting and carrying objects of medium to heavy weight and occasionally heavier, reaching, bending and maintaining balance on a moving ship; working under confined conditions on the ship, exposed to noise, vibration, potential allergens, and with occasional exposure to outdoor, extreme environments.
- These conditions may exist for the duration of a 2-month sea-going expedition every 1 to 2 year.
- Ability to obtain passport and international visas on a continuing basis.
