Call for Research Awards 2012

Call for graduate students and young scientists in Canada

To enhance the experience of graduate students and young scientists investigating marine geology questions related to the research themes of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP), the Canadian Consortium for Ocean Drilling (CCOD) offers merit-based research awards of up to $3000.

The research award is intended to support projects directed toward the objectives of upcoming or past DSDP/ODP/IODP expeditions, utilising core material and/or shipboard data. The research awards may cover travel and lab expenses or other approved costs related to the study. Applicants can be enrolled in either an MSc or PhD program or as a post-doc in a Canadian institution. Note that priority will be given to applicants enrolled in universities that are members of the CCOD.

Successful applicants are expected to submit a 1-2 page report about the outcome of their project within one year after the grant award. This report will be published in the CCOD newsletter.

The deadline to apply for a 2012 Research Award is November 18, 2011.  Applications will be reviewed by the CCOD scholarship committee, and decisions will be communicated in early January 2012.

Your application must include:

(1)  A mini-proposal of 3 pages maximum describing the aims of the study, the material/data to be worked on, the project partnership and a budget plan.

(2)  A curriculum vitae (template to download).

(3)  A letter of support from one supervisor (template to download).

No other attachments will be accepted. All documents should be emailed to the CCOD coordinator.
