Description of the course: The summer school will focus on paleoceanography and paleoclimatology at high latitudes. To integrate the various complementary issues on the subject, the summer school will include lectures and fieldwork in the St. Lawrence Estuary, where it will be possible to combine geophysical observations of glacial and postglacial sedimentary facies and sampling with the most common coring devices. Lectures will provide insights into the various methods used for investigation of sedimentary regime in addition to environmental, hydrolographic and climatic changes in an Arctic-subarctic context.
Professors and researchers from Canada will teach
courses and offer practical training during the summer school. In
addition, invited lecturers - international experts - will provide the
opportunity to address themes on cutting edge approaches for the study
of climate change at high latitudes as well as critical issues specific
to Polar-subpolar environments such as the sea-ice dynamics and the
Arctic freshwater budget.
Registration fee: Registration fees are CDN $1, 500. They
include all costs during the summer school after arriving in Montreal
except for two free evenings: transport from Montreal to Rimouski, from
Rimouski to Quebec and back from Quebec to Montreal, meals, hotel
accommodation, access to ships, laboratories, etc...It does not include
air flight tickets to Montreal nor extra-personal costs.

IODP-Canada scholarships (DEADLINE = May 15 2010): Ten (10) scholarships - 1000 $ each - will be offered by IODP-Canada to highly qualified candidates.
