CCOD Summer School Scholarships 2013

The Canadian Consortium for Ocean Drilling (CCOD) is sponsoring up to 5 scholarships to allow outstanding young scientists to attend one of the two 2013 ECORD Summer Schools in Urbino, Italy and Bremen, Germany. The scholarships will be valued at up to $2000 to cover costs of registration and travel, as well as meals and accommodation while attending the schools.

The scholarships are open to MSc and PhD students and early-career postdoctoral fellows (within 4 years of completing their PhD) based at Canadian academic institutions.  Note that priority will be given to applicants enrolled in universities that are members of the CCOD.

Your application must include:

  1. Letter of Interest (max. 2 pages) where you explain the reasons for your application and how attending a summer school will benefit your future scientific career, plus a short budget justification.
  2. Curriculum Vitae (download template)
  3. Letter of Support (download template) *sent directly from your supervisor

All documents (using the above templates only) should be emailed to the CCOD Coordinator (coordinator@mail.iodpcanada.ca).

ECORD Summer School Scholarships 2013

The European Consortium for Ocean Research Drilling (ECORD) is sponsoring 10 to 15 scholarships to allow outstanding young scientists to attend one of the two 2013 ECORD Summer Schools in Urbino, Italy and Bremen, Germany. The scholarships will be approx. up to 1000 €, depending on the travel distance, to cover costs of registration, travel, subsistence and/or accommodation at the schools.

ECORD Research Grants 2013

The European Consortium for Ocean Research Drilling (ECORD) is sponsoring merit-based awards for outstanding graduate students to conduct research related to the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program. The research may be directed toward the objectives of upcoming or past DSDP/ODP/IODP expeditions (core material and/or data). ECORD Grants cover travel and lab expenses or other approved costs related to the study. Preference will be given to studies conducted in a laboratory/institution other than the applicant’s home institution. Grants will not typically exceed 2000 €. Applicants should be enrolled in either a PhD or “early-career” post-doc programme at any institution from an ECORD country.

CCOD Graduate Student Travel Grants 2012

The Canadian Consortium for Ocean Drilling (CCOD) offers merit-based travel grants of $1000 each to support students presenting research related to the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program at major international conferences.

The CCOD is pleased to announce that two students received awards for 2012.  Congratulations to:

  • Lauren Harrison (MSc student, University of British Columbia) – Li Isotopes of Hawaiian Lavas: Kea vs. Loa Source Variation
  • Fernando Mantilla-Duran (MSc student, Brock University) – Central North Atlantic paleoceanography during Marine Isotope Stage 16 (ca. 640 ka, Middle Pleistocene): insights from a centennial-scale dinoflagellate cyst record at IODP Site U1313

CCOD Research Awards 2012

To enhance the experience of graduate students and young scientists investigating marine geology questions related to the research themes of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program, the Canadian Consortium for Ocean Drilling (CCOD) offers merit-based research awards of up to $3000.

The CCOD is pleased to announce that three students received awards for 2012.  Congratulations to:

  • Matthew Izawa (PhD student, University of Western Ontario) – Integrated mineral, chemical and isotopic study of microbial ichnofossil preservation in basaltic glass
  • John Evangelatos (PhD student, Dalhousie University) – The origin and evolution of the Canada Basin, Arctic Ocean
  • Olivia Gibb (PhD student, Université du Québec à Montréal) – The paleoceanographic conditions of Baffin Bay during the interglacials of MIS 5e and 11
